WebP vs PNG — when to use which
WebP for web
If the image will only be on a website — WebP is optimal. Smaller size speeds up page loading, saves bandwidth. All modern browsers support the format.
PNG for compatibility
When you need to open a file in any program — choose PNG. Microsoft Office, old editors, printers, photo labs — all work with PNG.
Image editing
For processing in Photoshop, GIMP, Figma, convert WebP to PNG. Lossless saves allow editing as many times as needed without quality degradation.
Logos and icons
Graphics with transparent background — PNG is ideal. Sharp edges, no compression artifacts, support in all layout and design programs.
Screenshots and documentation
For screenshots with text, PNG is preferable. Text remains readable, window borders — sharp. WebP and JPEG blur fine details.
