Why convert JPEG to PNG?

PNG uses lossless compression: each save doesn't degrade quality. This is important for images you plan to edit, apply filters to, or use as a base for graphics. PNG is also needed if you want to add a transparent background.

Will image quality improve after conversion?

No. Conversion doesn't restore details lost during JPEG compression. But it prevents further quality loss: PNG preserves the image exactly as you uploaded it.

Why is the PNG file larger than the original JPEG?

PNG doesn't use aggressive compression, so files are typically 2-5 times larger. This is the tradeoff for lossless quality. For web publishing, use JPEG; for editing and archives, use PNG.

Can I add transparency to the converted PNG?

JPEG contains no transparency information. After converting to PNG, open the file in a graphics editor (Photoshop, GIMP, Figma) and remove the background using selection tools. PNG will preserve transparency.
